Wednesday's AdSense Outage

Earnings down?

OptiRex

How did this affect anyone's earnings?

Mine were pulverised for the second 12 hours! Only 20% of my earnings came after AdSense came back online.

All my final metrics were well down to average and even more noticeable in that I was having a storming day until the outtage.

Am I the only one?

Yep

And if I had more filter ability I would be over $300 per day.

You have to remember this is a 10 year old, trademarked product, website. I put 20 hours a week in for 10 years to create the content I have and the marketing that powers it. There is blood, sweat and tears in there and many late nights after working all day.

And now I am free because of Adsense!

Rolling out 3 more sites along the similar lines right now and will be able to shuttle the traffic directly from the parent site to them.

Khensu, I'm about where you are at, around the same page views(not counting forum page views and index pages), but I don't filter ads at all. For this time of year, I had my biggest day yesterday, Wednesday, over $300 from Adsense. Last year at this time I was only making half that.

Nice! Feels good doesn't it?

I tried droping my filter about 3 months ago but almost totally got desamated. I have 18 different themes on my pages 24 pages, it's like having 18 one page websites to filter. I have to allow low payers to filter out the pure MFAs.

I am playing at it.
But I didnt do a damned thing for 3.5 years - no improvements or additions. My health/condition wont allow me the time.

I have a bunch of small hobby sites with GOOD original content since well before google came about.

5k page views
$100+ (just) average per day over a long period.

And the stats say much the same thing every day for 3 years or so now...

Another thing that would be interesting to compare would be whether the sites that suffer are real genuine content with organic traffic or if they buy visitors?

All of my traffic is from links, forums, search engines etc.

Seems google adsense likes well targeted qualified traffic from real content sites.

For me, Wednesday was above average. When I checked my reports, they were updating normally.

Tuesday was way above average, and so far, today is just as good or better.

I only dropped by today because our numbers were so drastically lower than usual all day today and a little low late yesterday and I wanted to see if anyone else was having the same. Guess so.
CTR is down by about 25% (of its usual levels) and PPC is down by about 7% (of usual). So I'd say it most likely has to do with the fact that I caught some PSAs popping up which NEVER, EVER happens on our site, so I'm guessing something was a bit broken, at least for a while, and noone was clicking on the cra__y PSA ads. We also get a lot of good UK traffic, early morning, even though we're in USA, so we probably lost all that due to the G-breakage.

per request: Travel related, 28,000+ imp/day
(you don't WANT to know our daily income, really, trust me ;)

spaceylacie and Khensu

Thanks for the inspiration! :-)
Nice to know what's possible, though I'm getting nowhere near the kind of traffic or $ you both seem to be pulling in. Amazing!

Khensu, It feels okay. Yesterday I bought a sofa because it's the one I wanted even though I could have purchased an entire 5 piece living room set for the same price. The reclining sofa is really comfortable.

Khensu!

30,000 page views $250

Do you know that's 30K a month where I live? One whole year making that and you would be able to buy 3 houses (5 if they're economy units)!

Um I think $250 x 30 is only $7500. Do they multiply differently where you come from? :-)

Well 250 US here in the UK after tax buys me a full tank of petrol for my van.

Or would pay someone to unblock the toilet!

Or would buy a meal for 2 in a good(ish) resturant.

I average over 30K views daily but with the low paying ads can't match what you two are showing....:(

my stats haven't changed in the last 3 hours or so..

Spacylacie,
Don't you just love those recliners? I just bought 2 leather loveseats and one of them was a double recliner. :)

Everyone in the family is green with envy!

Had to go with loveseats as space is limited, (small LR), needed to hold some space for my entertainment center and personal recliner.

Oh yeah, Google it is time for an updation or click dump :)

yep mike... over here in beautiful, sunny malaysia, USD250 a day equals RM1000. So USD7500 a month equals RM30,000. There ARE other countries besides the US you know ;)

With the earnings many people like Khensu are making on Adsense, you could live VERY, VERY comfortably here.

Why else would I get into Adsense? My home catering biz is good, but it's tough work - I'm running in and out of my hot kitchen frying chicken even as I type this! Adsense is sooooo much easier ... and cooooler.

Ahhh! You just need to add the proper denomination units and then it makes more sense. Yeah, I think it equals like 82,500... pesos a month too, but you don't hear THEM exclaiming on here do you :-)?

OptiRex, I don't know what it is about your website(s), but you're always posting about seeing the wildest swings.

Actually you only see these type of posts from me when I experience a wild swing or an evidently unusual occurrence.

My actual daily earning's average rarely fluctuates more than $40-60 on a several hundred Dollars a day account therefore when I report an anomally it is usually with good reason to question what has happened.

I appreciate earnings vary however when there is a substantial drop after an "outtage" then questions have to be asked.

My Thursday's earnings ended up, considering the volume of reported Page Impressions, the worst day of the year of an otherwise solid week up until the outtage, with easily the lowest EPC this month and the lowest eCPM since 27th December 2005.

To put this into context this year's eCPM average is much more than USD 10.00 and Thursday's was 20% less...that is substantial and especially so if it continues for more than a few days!

Do I feel the "problem" has been resolved?

It's too early to tell today however initial figures suggest not but we'll see as the day goes on.

Interestingly AdSense have not responded to me as yet which makes me believe that they are taking things much more seriously than a canned response.

Precisely and if you read through them you'll understand my reasons and why my statement is justified.

I am not the only one who has experienced strange occurrences this past few weeks however I may be one of the few prepared to put their head above the parapet and ask questions.

Of course AdSense would never answer any of them since admiting any type of issue would be akin to "Doing no evil"! :-)

I am having CTR and eCPM problems and my metrics are screaming this, now whether I have been invaded by Pirannasites I do not know however I shall fathom it out.

ditto

however I may be one of the few prepared to put their head above the parapet and ask questions.

seeing threads like these from senior guys sort of tell newbies that it's really OK to clear their doubts and ask questions. After all, we're here to share and learn. I've had many potential cold-sweat situations cut short because someone confirmed a wild or weird fluctuation or an outage. If my earnings were consistently solid and I feel I am beyond contributing to certain posts, then I'd just ignore them. That's why Opti, Khensu, Ann and Hobbs are my kinda people. Always ready to pitch in with a polite bit of info spiced with a generous amount of humour.

In any case, I've had 3 wild fluctuations already this month!

I am on track for my best month ever. Not surprisingly, I have been working my butt off since mid-July. Yeah, hard work pays off.
