First of all I really would like to thank all the webmasters that kindly share their knowledge in this forum, it has really helped me a lot from the beginning.
I have a website in spanish about a popular programming language, I have tutorials, articles and a forum. The website gets around 1,000 visits a day, it might seem little, but considering the topic its a lot.
I started the website as a hobby, I like to write tutorials so I decided to share them. Then about 6 months ago I found about AdSense and decided to try it on the website. As an unexperienced user on the topic, my first couple of months were horrible, my total gross was about $10usd.
But, instead of loosing all hope I decided to make a little research about the topic, thats how I found webmastersworld, and thats how I found that you have to test and test, and make more testing.
I began optimizing my website, and suddenly I started to gain more. I stopped testing when I thought I had the best optimization possible, my revenue was not amazing, but hey, I was earning something from my hobby site :)
A couple of weeks ago I decided to completely redesign my website. I was bored of the old layout and made a completely new one, this time I really considered the ad layout, to try and make them more natural and so I could put 728x90 leaderboards. I also upgraded my CMS software and I reorganized my tutorials.
The first day of the new design my earning went up about 300%, I thought it was a good day, I had them but then it was back to normal, but not this time. The second day it was the same, then the next day, and the next until now, where my daily revenue has gone up 300%.
Im really happy for this, because I have a website design I really love and that is making the ads more attractive for my users.
By the way, my ads are very blended with the website design, they dont stand out.
Just hope that my experience might help someone, and encourage them to keep testing.
Cheers!
my daily revenue has gone up 300%
Good for you kidd! And thanks for sharing your experience.
you have to test and test, and make more testing.
I'm glad you've been listening ;)
Yes, this is 99% of the deal with AdSense. The problem with the program in many respects is a little like that of the WYSIWYG web design application - suddenly everyone with a computer was a "web designer". With AdSense all of a sudden everyone with a WYSIWYG editor is a web marketeer.
It simply isn't that easy. It takes time, risk, sometimes financial investment and a creative thinking process.
You're reaping the rewards of the above. Enjoy.
:)
