Both are possible just do a quality website create content and visits will come after that.. or if you do many crappy sites i dont think you will even keep the visits or get the most important clicks since those are what you are looking for...

Just make many good sites, then the bucket will come. Probably.

I buy a thousand domains, and build a template for all of them. Then I give them all away to school kids as a 'build a website' project. One of them is bound to put something funny on, and if every domain gets just one click at $1, I've made a thousand dollars! See. It's simple.

This is the questions I had when I was new to the game a little less than a year ago..
So to try and give you some directions, here's my answers..

1.
This is very individual, some of the people here has plenty of small sites / domains. Some are just building content on one big site. Others build lots of content to spread over lots of sites. It depends whether you know a little about much, or if you know a whole lot about little.
But keep in mind, there's no reason to build pages JUST for the sake of putting adsense on them, this won't earn you a dollar! Build pages about subjects you know something about, and build them for your visitors!

2.
I guess I answered this in no. 1 ;)

3.
Marketing is one of the biggest problems / solutions to web publishers. This is sometimes the hardest part. But traffic comes when you have worked enough on your site, and people re-visit because they like your content. They might even tell their friends about it! Some, if not most of the guys around here does SEO too(me included). SE-traffic is what I like to call the best traffic, they who visit your page from search engines, are really interested in the topic of your page. Other things to do to market your site could be, use a "tell a friend script", opt-in building, advertising, joining forums, and maybe the greatest one of them all: the use of time. You can't count on making any money with your one week old website. You have to spend what it takes, of both money and time.

4.
The people who really 'makes it' with adsense, doesn't just come up with a subject they really don't know anything about. Their sites often starts out as a small site about their hobby or interest. If you really like to play the piano, make a site about playing the piano. If you're into football, create a site about football. But if it's fish that's your interest, do not make a page about bank loans.. Do you get the point I'm trying to make? Create a site about something you like, make it interesting to other people, build content - fresh content (means: update your page alot)! Do this because you enjoy doing it. THEN start to think about putting adsense on it.

Hope this helps a bit. - And good luck!

Ps. Welcome to WebmasterWorld.
- If you have questions about
adsense or any other webmaster related subject,
you've come to the right place!

There's probably a thousand ways to make the money with AdSense - it's all a matter of which one you want to pick.

I personally write pages which contain information which holds its relevance for a long period of time (information pages). Each time I find myself answering a question on forums or IRC more than two or three times I go and create a page about that topic. Typically this will mean I'm doing a page a day at least. Many small, concise but informative pages build into an empire :D
