Now, this is what really made me open my eyes:
"AdSense revenue nearly doubled, to $650 per day."
I clicked the link, and got to -what I call- an ugly site.
(If the owner of this site reads this, I'm very sorry to call your site ugly, but in my opinion it really is, and by the way, I guess I can call your page whatever I want, as long as you earn $650/day.)
I have to say I'm confused. How on earth would this be possible? I've spent about 3 months now on a new site, brand new design, which is good.. Yep, I'm making a great looking page, which also is very userfriendly. But I'm thinking: Should I just drop my design, start all over, make a crappy design, or a "none-professional design", and just don't give a damn about what my visitors thinks of it?
I still remember the discussions we had over this guy who makes what? $10.000 / day with adsense, this dating-guru from Canada.. Everyone was talking about his badly designed page, and I agreed. It was simple, and kind of ugly.. But still! $10.000 a day!
Does anyone of you have any comments on this?
Do you know of more "ugly" sites which brings in tons of silver for the owners? Please let me know, so I can have a few more ideas for my new page-design.
Best regards
IWMI
I have a 19" monitor, & would set it to 1024x768, but my husband plays an online game every day, & says he has to have 800x600 for the game.
No, we do not have separate computers!
Just yesterday he asked me why I set the screen "with that small text". Told him so my programs are easier to use, and so I can see what other people are seeing.
On a 19", 1024*768 shouldn't look that small. If you want real big but still very sharp images, try a 24inch LCD. I use mine @ 1920*1200 resolution. :)
And, let's connnect this with AdSense: We will need 600*400 ad blocks before the current ones actually take 5cm on the screen within 10 years!
Perhaps we are all trying too hard to cater to smarter tech savvy types when we should be catering to the idiots.
that's something many people (including me) should get into their head. it's not necessarily that stupid people can't distinguish ads from content links. moreover, the point is, that
a) average 70% of your joe surfers can be rated as stupid
b) stupid people respond much more intesely on ads, so there lies the money
don't concentrate too much on the web savvy young blogging myspace hip (and whatnot) crowd, because:
a) they mostly don't give a **** about what your ads have to offer anyway.
b) they only want to know how people like you earn money with their website (primary issue on every web marketing conference) and wouldn't give you one cent.
c) you can't please them with your design anyway. my site design is not exactly bad. in fact, i try to keep it relatively nice, clean and simple. but i still get mails from web designers who want to relaunch my pages with their pointless (because not adsense-money-generating) ideas. apart from that, content is naturally what it's all about!
care for people who actually click on ads and if you don't want to make use of professional help, keep your design excursions to the minimum. stupid visitors may be insensible towards crappy design, because they got no feeling for what is nice and what is not, but i'd still say don't show incompetency to the others.
