Hi Guys,

I have extensive knowledge about adWords and SEO but for the love of Odin's smelly socks, when I started dealing with AdSense I could not get my head around it.

So before I start asking specific questions I would like to have a good reading material from trust sources that I can follow and I want it to be recent as I tend to ignore any news/guide older than 6 months.

Can anyone provide some good links or tips for the following :

1) Remarketing in general
2) How can I choose to advertise only on specific sites (list of 10 lets say)
3) What is the average CTR of a decent AdSence campaign, knowing that my Adwords campaigns hover at around 15% CTR
4) How often should I tweak/change banner designs/layouts in order to improve
5) Is there an easier way to create banners for specific websites and use them there (say on Youtube type of websites I want to use a different banner)
6) Any additional display tips you think I should know - bring them on!

Thank you for your tips and help in advance and I hope this post will spur an interesting and informative discussion.

I'm not clear on whether you are asking for AdWords guides or AdSense guides. A lot of your points seem to speak more to AdWords.

Hi Netmeg,

I am interested in AdSence only. I am OK with my AdWords progress and ROAS but once I decided to run AdSense for remarketing purposes I realized I am doing something terribly wrong.

Either I can`t regulate the firehoze or I squeeze it tight too much. Either way I get almost no return business from these campaigns and I tend to believe the fault is with the way I do(or do not do) things more than adSense and remarketing not working for my vertical.

If I confused you in any way with my questions I can reiterate them on demand.

I don't understand this at all. Why would you run AdSense for remarketing purposes?

Because I believe that text ads as banners will perform even worse. Though to be honest I`d give it a try starting May.

@Martinibuster - I came across his work in the past on several occasions but lacking kindle and living in a country where Amazon does not deliver(shocking I know) I was always hesitant to get his books. Now with a recommendation that stellar, I already bought this and started reading it on my brothers Kindle. THANK YOU!

First I think you better look up what Remarketing actually is.

@netmeg

I understand what remarketing is. I only use the Google advertising part of it. We have separate remarketing strategy involving e-mail and phone follow ups and retention.

But to not discard your comment I`d like to ask: What is your perception of the definition remarketing?

Text ads usually perform better than image/rich media. However, this greatly depends on your site. Personally 80% of my earnings are from text.

You need to test this yourself. Test, test, test :)

Tweaking the layout regularly is a good idea to improve the user experience, increase your pageviews per user and consequently increase your revenues due to a higher ad impression count

Remarketing is when you target someone who has visited your own site in order to bring them back to your own site. You show ads to them on other sites in the display network - and only to them - to entice them to come back.

I don't know how it has anything to do with AdSense. Unless you're trying to target people who have visited your site to come back and click on ads, which would be somewhat risky in an arbitrage kind of way. Or if you're trying to use remarketing on one of your own sites to bring people back to another of your own sites, but then it would be cheaper to just run your own banners.

So I don't get it.
