Sudden Small Spike in Google Discover After Long Absence – Retest?

Hey everyone,
I used to get consistent visibility on Google Discover, but a while ago my site completely disappeared from it.

Recently, I noticed a small comeback — just a handful of impressions and a couple of clicks showing up in Search Console over 24 hours. I can't see which articles are being clicked on though, sample size is probably too low.

Does this usually mean Google is testing my content again? Has anyone else seen small bursts like this before a potential return to regular Discover traffic?

I’m going through the exact same thing right now. Just like in February, my website completely disappeared from Discover for a few weeks, and now I’m suddenly seeing small spikes again, a few impressions and clicks here and there.

Back then, this “testing phase” lasted about four weeks before traffic slowly started to recover. What you’re describing matches that pattern almost exactly.
From my experience (and from what others reported back then), this usually means that Google is testing your content for Discover again. They push out a few articles to see how users react, click-through rate, engagement, maybe even how often they come back. If those signals are positive, visibility gradually increases again.

This often happens after a Core Update or some kind of system recalibration, so that might be the case now as well. Of course, I can’t say for sure, that’s just my assumption. Right now, I also notice that Discover is showing me a lot of random junk completely unrelated to my interests, so maybe so it may also be that Google has messed up again.

My advice: don’t change too much. Just keep publishing solid, original content in your niche and give it some time.

Over the past couple of decades g's penchant of revisiting things they've killed off to see if there is any financial fodder left in over-picked fields is a common theme. Meanwhile, would not place too much hope and expectation in a wheeze of stale air.

@jc Discover traffic has increased significantly today. Has it improved for you as well?

unfortunately zero discover traffic after the 'retest' a few days ago. I have been 'deplatformed' since the end of april.

Since the end of April? That's definitely different from my situation.
