it is highly unlikely that hosting your site on a subdomain will solve the underlying problems of the site as hosted on the main domain. there were 2 Google updates during December. which do you think affected your site and why?
I don't know the one that affected my site as both updates were kinda running concurrently.

There is always the problem of inheritance. Try to find out what happened, and work on correcting that issue--a sub-domain will not likely make much difference.
