Google will begin rolling out its Page Experience Ranking to desktop starting in February 2022, and is expected to complete by the end of March 2022.
For reference, this is the same page experience signals from the mobile earlier in 2021.

This means the same three Core Web Vitals metrics: LCP, FID, and CLS, and their associated thresholds will apply for desktop ranking. Other aspects of page experience signals, such as HTTPS security and absence of intrusive interstitials, will remain the same as well. While the mobile-friendliness signal continues to be a part of mobile ranking, it won't be a factor for desktop. When a site has separate desktop and mobile URLs with an appropriate configuration, the desktop signal is based on the URLs that desktop users see.

How will this affect your traffic from desktop?

Happy to see it arrive on desktop. Probably won't worry people as much as the mobile release, seeing as desktop metrics tend to be better, mostly due to more powerful devices, less latency, more bandwidth, etc.

I think that we should not rest easy even if the desktop metrics tend to be easy though, reviewing the website according to the metrics won't hurt. Maybe preparing for this upcoming rollout would give us less umm work when it's finally done. Let's hope for the best.

Instead of waiting to see if you can detect flux in YOUR site after the fact why not prepare a list of pure spam sites NOW, script generated spam sites that have impossible backlink profiles and receive 10's of millions of visitors from Google every month, and watch those. If this Google rollout does anything much it would surely get those right?

Nothing has in over a year.
