@Tangor, I can personally say we have used it in the past for some of our newer websites as engine suggests.

Our pages would often be "discovered but not indexed" and hitting the "Request indexing" button would always fix it quicker than waiting for the status to change by itself. I would say within 3 days at most.

It is no longer a problem we are facing, but I can see how it can be useful in this situation.
