Can Google read content loaded in js

I was wondering these days, if Google can read content that is created in javascript. So the content would not be in the source code of the web page, but it would be in the DOM, once the javascript code has rendered and inserted the text into the specific elements. Or is this simply not possible, and you should make sure any important content is in the source code, for Google to read?

Just note that that video is from 2018 and this is an area where Google has evolved quite a bit in the past 2 years.
