I noticed today that Google Instant Search has now gone, and although Google has not yet said anything on its blog, there is a statement which appears over at SEL.
It appears that it's been removed because of mobile usage having increased.

We launched Google Instant back in 2010 with the goal to provide users with the information they need as quickly as possible, even as they typed their searches on desktop devices. Since then, many more of our searches happen on mobile, with very different input and interaction and screen constraints. With this in mind, we have decided to remove Google Instant, so we can focus on ways to make Search even faster and more fluid on all devices.

The small screen is apparently giving g as many problems as it does for the rest of us. At least we don't have to return to the 320x200 days! (640x480 is pushing it). The more things change the more they remain the same.

Looking through the web dev modes in FF that's on the extreme side, most are in the 360 467, etc range.

Most of this is new stuff for me... coded desktop all along, so having to investigate the "small screen". Was it lucy24 speaking of differences between pixels and video pixels? Seem to recall that in that it made me look (something short of 4:1).

Good idea IMO. Never found it beneficial and it was a waste of bandwidth.
