Just noticed that Google.co.uk is only showing 9 results on the first page of search results for certain one word searches. Is this new?

This is a regular & recurring test by Google. They have tested this in many different countries. We've been seeing different types of this test for years.

Nothing new. It’s just Google’s test. I have a theory that it’s Google's way of adapting to the crazy pace. People don't have time (or patience) to do a research so they are looking for the top results only.

Earlier this year I saw a UK test with only 5 or 6 results, it was almost an ads fest.
