Google has introduced Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) error reports which will appear in the Search Console.

The AMP error report gives an overview of the overall situation on your site, and then lets you drill down to specific error types and URLs. This process helps you quickly find the most common issues, so that you can systematically address them in your site's AMP implementation (potentially just requiring tweaks in the templates or plugin used for these pages).

What is an "AMP error"? I don't plan to convert any pages to AMP code, so will this be reported as errors? In other words, can there be an "AMP error" even if there's no AMP code?

To judge from Google's description, an AMP error is an error in "your site's AMP implementation."

No AMP? Common sense would suggest that you don't have a problem.

AMP... no one will do this except for Wordpress users who just need to add a plug-in. It will die on the vine.... at worst, for everyone except big news agencies- they might create an AMP Feed. IMO
