Google Referral String Keywords Back in IE8?

Google announced they were working on something in IE8 and no referrers passed for a couple weeks. Now IE8 back and passing almost all search term data (only 0.2% search terms unavailable, 96% unavailable 3 weeks ago).

Others seeing the same? Was Google working on a fix in SSL search but still pass search term using IE8 as test ground? Wishful thinking and just a miss that they aren't stripping the term?

Very well spotted and this is interesting.

I have just done a test and I can confirm this. In IE8:

- Google search is not forcing https (it is http)
- The SERP layout is the "old style" with smaller font and underlined titles
- search keywords are passed as referrer string

yeah okay - so probably not a sign of things to come. Just back to the old way for an old browser.

Probably not though they've hinted they're considering changes.

It's still a very handy thing to know.

For sites with large enough amounts of traffic and perhaps the right demographic, IE8 browser share may be enough to give a good sample of what people are searching for to arrive at pages.

Another strange effect is that the define: advanced search operator isn't working in IE 8.

Let me put my "hat" on, hold on know....

So support for IE8 is being nuked on major sites, coming soon or already here...

Goog Announces no support for IE8 on GMail flat-out with links to upgrade IE(no option above 8 on XP), with a juicy link to Chkkkkkkk-ROME as First option.... Remember CH is huge on Illigal copies of Windows XP, so is Russia...

Now China(come to PaPa), has the most IE8 out there, i think i know so... so throw that one over GFWOC in the biggest Net Use country and you got your self an Audience!

As XP support is ending next month it also means that they will be huge on malware....

Now China(come to PaPa), has the most IE8 out there

But how big is Google in China? I thought Baidu was the dominant search engine? Are Gmail etc popular there?
