Just had a look at my stats in Google Analytics. I had a 40x increase in traffic from one particular location - the International Space Station Control Room.

I checked the keyword and (lol) it was 'April Fool'

Why I oughta....... :)

I'm hoping those 41 "extra" visits don't topple my daily quota for tomorrow!
As it is, I can barely read my "trickle traffic" from my real visitors next to that huge 41 hit location.

Now that we've been punked, what can we do as payback? How about we all pause our Adwords accounts for the next 24 hours! :^D

Maybe for an outlandish April Fools, Google could have come out with a statement along the lines of

"Google have given too much weight to brands to the detriment of diversity. That was wrong. We're now going to judge each domain purely on its own merits, regardless of brand signal - and give the searcher the BEST, most diverse, results"

(this April Fools would work best if Google dialled up the host crowding for brands even more at the very same time)

Great, now I see ANOTHER "April Fools" issue on Google!
If you run Adsense full image ads and click on on your serp listing, you get a pop up that says:

"The page at [google.g.doubleclick.net...] says: This page requires AC_Run ActiveContent.js "

Funny if fine, but FUBAR is not. Reloading my page outside of Google's serp click the page works OK. Try it.

I know i have worked 1 year to get daily +10 visitors to my site and from one day traffic was cut with 40%. It looks like a joke too.

Sorry, my earlier report appears to have been a short lived glitch with my account.

However, it looks like the ISS has now disappeared, presumably it re-entered the atmosphere and all 41 "souls" were lost. :^( ------ooops, it's back, it was just passing over Antarctica.

@backdraft7 - I tried that when you posted it in the previous month didn't see what you saw with the AdSense ads. You tried that in multiple browsers?

Still got my freakout on hold until tomorrow.

Nothing is more boring that an all day April Fools Joke...especially one that started the previous evening. Come on Google, we got the joke, it was cute, but we'd like our normal sized tracking dots and no fool stats back. UPDATE: Ah, that looks better, they must have heard me. (yeah, right!)

Another cutsie/scary April Fool's gag came from EFF with wierd stories like

Starting this week, department stores will begin affixing "FBI Anti-Piracy" stickers to mirrors, warning consumers that placing a reflective object in the same room as a television could constitute a violation of U.S. copyright law.

I wondered if the Space Station numbers were affecting the real-time total, because it was higher than normal for us. But nope, it was a standalone number.
