Mistakenly changed the title of 3 years old site of 1000s of pages

Hi Webmasters,

I mistakenly updated/changed the title of a very reputed 3 years old site.. this changed happened 2 weeks ago,... now suddenly the traffic got reduced by half 2 days ago...

I investigated the issue and fixed it,

Now, the titles are back like before but not before google has already indexed almost all of the new title.

Do you guys think that my traffic will be restored to previous levels?

If yes, then how long will it take?

If no, then what steps should I take to resolve / fix this issue?

are you sure that the update of a title change your SERPs results? seems extrange for me.

I had a similar brain cramp in February of 2011; I accidentally no-indexed my home page for about a whole month. Doh!

It took about a week for things to sort themselves out. However, it seems that LATELY there are many reports of google taking a longer time to respond to changes / index new content, so it might be a bit for things to work themselves out.

If no, then what steps should I take to resolve / fix this issue?

Warning: Marginal advice with no scientific basis behind it to follow:

Go in to webmaster tools and do a fetch as googlebot on some of your key pages, and then go ahead and "submit" the URL to google. I think you can only do that with a total of 20 pages per month, so maybe just pick out some key ones?

Then, and this is the most important part; find a nice quiet place, sit down with a nice glass of Irish whiskey, and crank up some of your favorite music.

Probably these two steps are about as equally effective in getting thins resolved with google :)

The error has been fixed. Don't try fixing anything else! The more you fix things, the more broken it becomes.

One of those live and learn moments.

Per the marginal advice above... using fetch... I am 100% sure it helped my pages get restored... when I lost them due to technical mistake.

Also, check them and re-submit them if they aren't ranking well... some of my pages that I "fetched" stayed lost... until I re-submitted them a second time.

yes update of title by mistake has created a havoc for me

thanks guys, i have fetched and submitted few of the pages to the google index in wmt, like u guys adviced... The submissions available to me have been reduced to zero now! is there a daily limit to it?

I thought it was a monthly limit of 500 pages that you can fetch as google bot and only 20 pages per month that you can submit to google after you fetch them.

But it MIGHT be a daily limit instead of monthly so you should try again the next day.
