You’ll notice that searching is faster and more interactive from your first keystroke. As soon as you begin to type, Google Instant starts to display results, so you don’t even need to press the search button.

Once you pick a web page to visit, you’ll see the page load on a new, slide-in pane that will layer over the search results. You can slide the pane to the right to get back to your search results, and even keep scrolling through the results as your web page is loading. This allows you to go back and forth from results to web pages quickly to get the information you are looking for.

Now, there's even more reason to make your site mobile and tablet compatible.

I like the way some commentators are suggesting it's Google putting Chrome OS into the Apple App Store.
[zdnet.com...] it might not be called “Chrome for iOS” or anything, the updated Google Search app for iOS is a dead ringer for Chrome OS when running on the iPad.

That's a chore I've been procrastinating about - and something that will no doubt require a bit of a learning curve. You're right, this is yet another reason to get into the field before my sites get left behind.

I downloaded this on my ipad last night - it's ok - i'd say it's not a game changer but it has some neat features. And because it's a tablet it displays site's in full screen just like a browser.

in fact that's one of my pet peeves with current "mobile" detection. That the ipad is considered a mobile device and therefore some sites send you to their little mobile version of the site with no way to get back to the full version. But I can see full sites just fine on my ipad.

But back to the topic at hand - the new google search app. Did I mention it has voice search built in? I think that's cool - and the way you can move between screens by dragging them back and forth.

That's a chore I've been procrastinating about - and something that will no doubt require a bit of a learning curve. You're right, this is yet another reason to get into the field before my sites get left behind.

My largest B2B client is concentrating on tablet-friendly more than mobile; our iPad traffic and sales increased over 800% in 2011 over 2010, while mobile traffic is still negligible. As a percentage of the whole, it's not huge, but the trend is obvious.

So now I'm all about responsive design, apps and QR codes. Woot!
