WMT no longer allowing addresses under "Set Geographic Target"?

In the hot topics thread, there is a link to a topic about telling google your location:

[webmasterworld.com...]

This in turn links to another article which talks about how to set this up in WMT.

In their screenshot they have options to specify country, state, city, street and zip. However in my webmaster tools account, I only see an option to set the country.

The original article was from 2007 so have times changed such that this level of specificity for your location is longer available in WMT?

Am I just being dense and missing another configuation option in WMT where this can be setup?

WMT settings have only ever mapped requests to whole countries as far as I remember.

The weird thing is I've seen a number of screenshots that show certain individuals can from WMT set their specific location down to the address.

Examples:

[searchengineland.com...]

[googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com...]

So in someway or at some point in time it was possible...

may be, but it doesn't make much sense to provide geo targeting at the level of your street or home address...

my guess is google would have only considered the country even then...

Maybe they were testing ways to connect Google Places/Local to WMT accounts.

For one my favorite keyword phrases I like to change the search location (in the left column) and watch the results change all over the place. Obviously, if google thinks you are a local, they will give you 'local results'. The huge question is what determines whether google assigns you to search region X as a local result or not?

To that end I was wondering if some of these websites were using something like an expanded geotargeted option...but this appears not to be the case?
