"We have now made Google +1 three times faster."
My Google WMT site performance was always around 2.0 seconds.
Then, I added the Google +1 button on a few pages, and my average load time jumped up to 2.6 seconds. I ripped those buttons out.
Then, I heard "3 times faster". I started adding back the buttons using the new code, on A LOT of pages. Now I am up to 2.5 seconds again.
Would Google Search tell me to dump those boat anchors? I believe they would. In a heartbeat.
MY THEORY -
The ORIGINAL code added 1.5 seconds to load time.
The NEW code adds 0.5 seconds - THREE TIMES FASTER!
But still far, far too slow.
I keep wondering if and when I should pull the "new code" buttons.
What do you think? What are you doing?

If I dropped Google Analytics and AdSense, could I get down to 1.5 seconds? Lower than that? Well, I won't be dropping AdSense, but GA is looking more and more like a candidate for dropping.
