New Site - Let Google Find It or Tell Them About It?

Bit of a conspiracy theory here, but let's see what you guys think.

I have a new site (spanking new). I also have 5 related sites that have some authority.

Should I:

1. Submit that new site to Google for indexing.

or

2. Let Google find the sites through links from the authority sites.

At a recent conference a presenter claimed that he saw deeper crawls when Google found sites, than when they were submitted to Google.

What do you guys think?

I would give it one authority backlink initially and then add the other authority backlinks gradually.

If you just submit it, Google might be slow to crawl it, and if it doesn't have any backlinks, most of the pages might not even get indexed.

A couple of decent links from elsewhere is all you need.

Google probably already knows about your site. They have access to the domain registrar data. As to your question - get backlinks & twitter mentions.

FWIW, launched two sites over Memorial Day, submitted XML sitemaps for them, linked them to each other once, plus each had one link from one of my other sites, the usual FB and Twitter presences, and one was getting Google traffic within three days, is now ranking and fully indexed. We messed up the URLs on the other one, so that took longer, but was finally fully indexed and getting traffic last week. YMMV.

So my answer to your question is - both.

new domain just over 2 wks ago - site immediately put on it, links bought and submitted to G, indexed and first searches on G within 6 hours.
