Google Voice Activated Search... microphone icon in search box

So last week I posted that I was seeing new super sized links [webmasterworld.com...] .

Now tonight I visit Google to find that I click on a microphone in the search box to tell Google what I want to find! It doesn't seem to work that well. It has a hard time deciphering what I am saying.

Not using any extensions this just popped up tonight. From what I understand this was only available with mobile devices in the past.

I've used it on my Android phone. It is a nifty feature on the phone where the keyboard is hard to use. I'd say it only works for me about 50% of the time though. Half the time I have to edit the words with the keyboard anyway.

I'm not sure how useful it would be on the desktop, but nice to be able to try it.

If you're using Chrome as your web browser, Google added HTML voice input to Chrome 11, which was released 4 days ago.

I'm seeing this today, I am using chrome and it appears when I am logged in or not. For the limited testing I have done it works rather well.

This will be interesting to see how all the players get into the speech recognition and how far it goes.
