From what I can surmise, the green pixel data hasn't been updated in at least 6 months, possibly longer. I'm judging this based on pages I'm familiar with, and some high profile pages added to some very strong sites nearly a year ago, which still aren't showing any GTBPR data.

It's not what's being displayed, but HOW it is displayed, that I was interested in. Does anyone else use IE8 or 9? What are you seeing?

Laugh....And I thought my kid messed up my Google toolbar! I guess there was a Google Toolbar Update aye?! I am getting the MORE>> thing as well and no buttons anymore n or any green bar on the PAGERANK slideout....I hate it.

I saw that thread, and asked about how widespread the alleged update was, but didn't get much feedback.

I remain skeptical about the extent of any recent updates. I haven't personally seen any evidence of an update on the relatively small number of pages I pay attention to, but of course my niche could be an exception.

But, as I explained in that thread, I'm still not seeing any green pixels on prominent new pages like huffingtonpost.com/travel, which was published last summer, and obviously has plenty of GTBPR flowing to it. This example strikes me as proof that either Google hasn't published new GTBPR data in nearly a year, or at a minimum, any subsequent updates have been of limited scope.

That's what it looks like to me, too. I really don't know what to make of it, but I don't focus on it either.

PR updates seem to be getting further and further apart.

Google seems to have deprecated the value of Page Rank... and a good think IMO. G created a monster that skewed the web for (and still does) a half-dozen years...

On IE 9 I noticed that Google's Pagerank button disappeared. I found it after clicking on the More >> link in the drop down options. After I clicked on one of Pagerank's features...to view a page's backward links the Pagerank button appeared on the toolbar once again in its usual position and remained there after I closed the browser and reopened it...weird. Despite the option to have the Pagerank button displayed on the toolbar checked it was like it had to activated by use to get it back there once again...weird.

I didn't notice that meself and find that interesting. Perhaps Google are tracking usage of PageRank data with a view to getting rid of it if it's not used enough?

I think PR is done!

I also think that the "link" has lost almost all its value in the Google algo. I derive this fact from: pages on our blog with extensive backlinks and they dont come up in top 10 for targeted keyword VS pages with no backlinks coming up higher

I'm also an IE8/XP user and noticed my buttons disappear recently when the Toolbar updated to v7.

You can get all your buttons back, on display on the Toolbar just by using them (clicking on them).

Google have created this Help page. "Where did my buttons go?" [google.com...]

This worked for me and I've managed to get the PR and UP buttons etc. back on the Toolbar.

BUT unfortunately this doesn't work for the Gmail button on the Toolbar. It gets pinned back on the current session but when you restart the browser or open a new tab the Gmail button is hidden and replaced by the larger 'More>>' text/link! Defeating the whole object as Google are trying to streamline things :(

Badger37 is correct. The toolbar doesn't hide the PageRank. If you click the MORE button it will display it and will keep displaying it until it gets bumped off from using other custom buttons.

Google is limiting the user to about five custom buttons. WHY? That is such an APPLE thing to do, to dictate what is best for my user experience. I hope they switch it back to the way it used to be because this has been a big PITA for me. The custom button was my favorite feature but this update has made it less useful for me. :(

Perhaps they are making the PR feature (and other custom buttons) an 'on-demand' part of the toolbar rather than a default feature so they can gauge interest, with a view to offering a standard config that most people want, or even phasing out less-used features.

Just click on Backwards links and your pagerank button will be available again - it drove me nuts until I played around with it and got it visible again. I know it does not make sense - so it must be a bug in the toolbar.

Just to add an update to my previous post.

I'm happy to report that my Gmail button has now (from this morning) started to remain displayed on the Toolbar and doesn't keep returning to the 'More>>' link! :)

PageRank button nowhere to be seem, even on the "More" button .... it must be on the way out or just of no concern to Google anymore. Even if it doesn't mean anything I kind of remain comforted by it's presence.
