Topeka, KS is really making a publicity play for Google's Fiber for Communities program [google.com] - by playfully renaming their city "Google, KS". That was in the news a while ago.

So Google is having some turn-about fun by giving itself the logo "Topeka". At least that's what I'm seeing.

I love April Fool's jokes, even those that have no jokes attached.

During a recent company password audit, it was found that a blonde secretary was using the following password:

"MickeyMinniePlutoHueyLouieDeweyDonaldGoofySacramento"

When asked why she had such a long password, she said she was told her password had to be at least 8 characters long and include at least one capital.

It's mind boggling that I am still seeing adwords ads for topeka.

I think the reality is they can't do it 'right' for everyone.

Not quite an April Fool's Day joke, but if you go to Streetview out front of Google's Mountain View CA headquarters you'll see a bunch of staff members lining the street. Some are doing handstands, some are waving, and there's one "will you marry" me poster being held. Good stuff.

Outside the US Google is also showing the time to perform a search as (at warp 7.67), (xx Jiffies) etc. Didn't see the Topeka thing but saw the Hans Christian Anderson anniversary image.

Street View has a new 3D icon which purportedly shows everything in 3D. I don't have any 3D glasses so I can't tell if it is an AF joke or truly 3D.

Well, from what I can tell in my time zone (where it's about 11pm PDT, still April 1), we're not in Topeka any more.

3D view has disappeared. I do have 3D glasses because a lot of the NASA Mars and Cassini Saturn images are in 3D, and I like to look at them... and, yes, there was a fairly convincing 3D effect on the street view images.

We had a very short discussion about Google Street View in 3D [webmasterworld.com], and I'm anticipating Google will eventually make some use of 3D modeling in maps and street view... which could ultimately evolve into a walk-through/drive-through or fly-over that's viewable in either 2D or 3D.

All they need to do is to map the universe in data points. ;)

This may have been a mild test of some of the technology along the way, as well as a joke.
