Publicis Groupe (EURONEXT Paris: FR0000130577) and Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) announced today that Publicis Groupe has agreed to acquire the Performics search marketing business (Performics) from Google.
I guess what Google needed was only Affiliate Network. They wouldn't offer any SEM services anyway.

I think that was fairly expected. I would have been surprised if they hadn't.

Good for them. That entity only serves to be a conflict of interest in their organization as a whole.

Well, I doubt they wanted Performics at all, but the SEM/SEO services were the conflict. Google bought DCLK's display advertising business, display ad serving software (and patents), and a big sales team experienced in agency sales.

This was in the cards when Publicis created its partnership with Google earlier this year and then the Vivaki Nerve Center

Looks like they planned something like that from the beginning.

They should get rid of Performics (now Google Affiliate Network) too. That's just another conflict of interest right there, seeing that many affiliates do SEM and SEO.
