Directory Links from Irrelevant Categories and Penalties

How do i clean up the site links from web directories which causing google penality.
i have few back links from web directories (unrelavent category ) so what i need is i want to remove them how can i approach - rememebr i have already mailed to sites (consult webmaster) regarding removal of link from there site but no reply till now

If these are free 'SEO friendly' directories they won't move or remove them unless you offer to pay.

If there aren't too many of these links then you might not need to bother. Whilst low quality IBLs can hurt your site I believe that a lot are needed. I think we're talking hundreds here.

You could always block the referring site, but that only works if the user is sending the referral in their browser.

these are free for all web directories, our link building team have done directory submission in unrelavent categories for which we are suffering now, those directories are taking off our links from there sites what to do ?

IMO your efforts will be better concentrated counter acting these links with high trust links instead of trying to get rid of them. I assume you will have spammy link text from the directories? In which case you need to make sure this link text IS in included in the link text from your high trust link.

Yep, that's probably the best way to spend your time and money. Get your link builders back on the ball -- or get a new team. It might go slowly, but as better links start to outweigh the poor ones you should begin to see results.

If that were possible (hurt a website by listing on bad domains) many websites would be taken out of business by their competitors. I think there is something else that is not right rather than getting bogged down with this issue.

There are a few current threads on WebmasterWorld about 'Googlebowling' presently. Google re-worded their "there is nothing a competitor can do to hurt your site" to "there is ALMOST nothing..."

But if there are only a few crappy links then I would agree that it's not worth the time trying to remove them. Google might not even be counting them.

did you check other aspects why your site gone in result pages?
