today i meet a site which we had developed 6 years back for a client, and that site is now an authority site. we developed in 2002 and since that time, client did not even updated at all, even all the information are wrong according to the current year and government laws and regulation. But today i just check that site, which is now an authority site. Site last updated in 2002 and might be a bit in between as well but the current information available of the each page is not true at all. how come google accept tis site as an authority site which is not even updated since years + the information is totally wrong if you go and see.... Looks very strange ...

As was mentioned earlier in this thread, Sitelinks do not mean "authority site". That's why the word "Authority" is in quotation marks in the title. Sitelinks only mean that the site is an exceptionally relevant result for the search query that was used.

age probably has something to do with it but it's probably mostly the quality of inbound links that give it authority...

i am agree with tedster & phranque But in my case, this is still a question that why a site is exceptionally relevant for the search term used when it is not updated since years....would like to add that the site is using google ads since 2003...

relevance is a type of quality but not the only measure.

for example, the words to the children's song "old mcdonald's farm" are completely relevant to farm animals but they are also complete nonsense.
kids, parents, educators and respected publications have been singing it, quoting it or referring to it for decades and it will rank well for farm, cow and moo but it won't teach you how to milk a cow.

My main site has these site links when I search for it by brand name and by brandname and broad service category.

If I search for brandname with another target word it appears as a standard result at #1 with an indented #2.

The brand name contains one of our target terms like this widgetclean.

If I split the word and search for widget clean I get the site link listing. If I search for clean widget I get the same. If I search for widget clean service I get the site link listing.

This works with apple. If you search for ple ap you get apple at #1 with site links.

Soft micro brings up Bill Gate's little site wih site links.

IMHO there is more to this than "is extremely relevant for that search term".

Can we say "very likely to be the result the user was looking for"? Those split words look like keyboard spasms during typing. However, I am surprised by Sitelinks for "soft micro".

FWIW I think that ple ap returning apple is a more significant example and possibly not just in this context.

What does this example say about how Google is working with word lists, ontologies, dictionaries etc? Perhaps for another thread though.

between the typing spasms and word wrap it would be quite natural to separate either of those words at the syllable boundary.
my guess would be that "soft micro" and "micro soft" are very similar searches.

also interesting that the snippet used differs between "ap ple" and "ple ap"...

What I am still finding strange is that I'm only getting the "site links" result on 1 of 3 machines on my network? Very odd. In order to feel special I have to use my laptop and I get the "site links". Both sites behave the same and they are from different industries and different geo locations. Is Google showing me what I want to see?
