Ranking differently on Google.com whether I'm in Canada or US

I'm familiar with the differences between results on google.ca vs. google.com

But is anybody aware of BIG differences in ranking on Google.com depending on the region where the search is coming from? If yes, is it new?

Let’s say I’m in Canada and I want to know how my site ranks in the US, can I trust the results on Google.com (being in Canada) to be representative of what a US customer would see on Google.com?

I'm noticing huge discrepancies (like 50 positions) right now for one of my site between Google.com in Canada and Google.com in USA.

Should I start using proxies?

Thanks!

I have noticed different results when searching the google.com site from different countries. The results are not the same as when I search from the USA. This is not something new, I have seen this behavior for years.

I can understand small differences. Actually, I talked to some of my friends and they all confirmed that I should expect small variations...

My problem is that I'm currently seeing variations bigger than between Google.ca and Google.com.

Does anybody has similar results?

I routinely see small differences between countries. If you're seeing large differences between countries all searching at .com my suspicion is that you're just seeing a datacenter doing some updating. Give it a day or two see if it settles down.
