Google is set to pay $13 million to end the lawsuit over WiFi data gathering where its vehicles used for Street View gathered data on unencrypted WiFi as they vehicles drove around.
Google will destroy all the data it still possesses and commit to teaching people how to protect their privacy on the internet.

You might wonder why, 9 years later, they still have these data :)

and commit to teaching people how to protect their privacy on the internet.

Yeah, that's the common argument that Google is using since some years. They claim they'll teach people and help people, and so on ... this is like with their ad tracking system, yes they allow people to choose not to be track, to have the data erased, but it's lost in the middle of tens of web pages to visit if you want to try to achieve it :)

$13 mil is pocket change to Google.

They will continue to break federal laws until someone in Washington DC has the understanding and desire to force change. It can’t happen soon enough since VCs are reluctant to spend their $ on a viable search startup which would have to involve millions in marketing to let the world know their is an honest alternative.

This is what ... 13 seconds of income for g? Talk about a slap on the wrist, this was followed by a kiss and a query: "All better now?"

No no, Google earns $4312 per second, so $13 million this is in 50 minutes.

Great. I want the Google penalty rate too. I want any future parking tickets I get reduced to 13 cents.

I'd also like to put a camera and voice recorder in every room of every google executive and to use what I see and hear as I please too.

Since we're being fair and all....
