YouTube has said it removed over 8 million videos in the last quarter of 2017, mostly because of spam, or adult content. Interestingly, 6.7 million videos were flagged for review by machines, with 76% being removed before they achieved a single view.

Sorry, but not mostly because of copyrighted materials? Like mostly isn't there copyrighted material (tv shows, sporting events) on YouTube? I know most sites in general if enough copyrights issues come up (say, like Torrent search engines) then they are removed from the index? I could be wrong. I did think that sites with copyright strikes are removed from the results, but YouTube isn't exactly forthright regarding how many take down notices they get in a month. Additionally, I'm sure most corporations can't pay enough people to keep their copyrighted material off of YouTube for more than a few minutes.
