Google is celebrating its 18 birthday with a doodle on the home page. That's fine, but, as reported, it did seem to be confused as to the day of its official birthday.

In 2004, its 6th birthday Doodle went online on September 7 and in the year before that, it was September 8.

In fact, none of these dates seem to have any particular relevance. The company's own history lists its incorporation date in 1998 - the nearest thing to a corporate birthday - as September 4. Google Celebrates 18th Birthday [telegraph.co.uk]

Eighteen years ago the Net and business was an entirely different place.

Wow, 1 day can actually be a long time in Internet years...

And I think it's funny how Google has been learning to drive (driver-less cars) just before its 18th birthday. (For those not from California, teenagers can get apply to get a learner's permit after they're 15 1/2 if they take a driver's education class; after 18, they can apply for a license need to take a class first.)

remember your first google? I was at work, using yahoo search, and a co-worker suggested I try this other site, because it doesn't have a lot of ads on it.
