Sri Lanka is involved in Google's Project Loon test which is taking place at the moment, according to a report in The Guardian. I find it interesting to read that the balloon was launched from South America. Not sure why it was launched there.

Google’s balloon-powered high-speed internet service known as “Project Loon” has started testing in Sri Lanka ahead of a planned joint venture with the government.

One of three balloons being used in the trials entered Sri Lankan airspace on Monday, having been launched in South America, said Muhunthan Canagey, the government’s information and communications technology chief. Report: Google Project Loon Starts Testing in Sri Lanka [theguardian.com]

Uh... this is about an actual, physical balloon, not a metaphorical trial balloon, right? If so, it's surely got to do with air currents.
