The horrifying part is that if you feed the whole phrase into Google Translate, you get "The Pope receives in separate audiences" (sic plural). Further experimentation confirms that Udienza, capitalized, has a specialized meaning, hence the adjective ... but the only way to force an explicit translation of "questa mattina" is to give it the wrong gender. Is the time of day somehow subsumed in the very concept of Papal audience-giving?

Actually there were other entries below Mr Schmidt, so "audiences" is correct - I did not include them as they were utterly unrelated (they were the head of a religious order and an ambassador).

So they weren't translating the phrase I pasted in; they were providing a canned response based on a guess about where I'd seen the phrase and supplying context accordingly. Hm, that really shouldn't suprise me should it ;)

I could've swore I read somewhere that Eric Schmidt is an atheist but maybe I'm wrong. Although that's not to say he wouldn't be invited to the vatican if he was. I really wish I knew what they talked about.
