Notice anything different as you search on Google today?
You may notice the familiar lines – that have been a part of Google since their first days in 1996 as research project to crawl the internet – have disappeared.
What this actually does it make sure that G's products appear above the fold (look at line height and larger text for links... All in the name of "readability"...

I hadn't noticed to be honest. I've been messing around with VPN's and its seems like they've been A/B testing these changes for a while.

I didn't notice the missing lines.
I did notice the lack of colored background for the ads, and the little "ad" tag on the left of the ads.

I could hardly see those very faint backgrounds

I figure the colored background was there just so they could say the ads were differentiated from the search results. barely, though.
