For the past few days I've been deep in research and audit mode, basically trying to formulate a plan for getting my sites up to date with SEO... you know, all the stuff that MC tells us about how (and why) to disavow bad links, recognise "unnatural link profiles" and other bad SEO stuff that might have happened in the past.

I just went to check something on one of my own sites and what do I find?

300x250 and 160x600 full colour, all singing and dancing image adverts for an SEO company that will guarantee me #1 for my search terms with the bonus of 90 days free.

I wonder if MC sometimes wonders if he is fighting with one hand tied behind his back.

The people who tied his hands in the first place are his employers. They are building on a broken premis and breaking it further.

In the OP I did not make it clear that these were Adwords ad placements

Are you talking about the inserts, or the money? If you're making money, great! If you're talking about the absurdity of the ads, that's great, too.

@Tangor...

I was talking about how MC does everything in his power to stop spam and correct the effects it has on the SERP's..... while the Adwords team in the next office (I made that up) are happily taking money from the one industry that has done more to generate spam than any other.

Naturally. It's in their DNA.
