The method of the invention allows willing readers to pay a fee for having posted comments to an online publication of an internet content provider rendered distinctive, the distinctive comments being altered from a default comment format so that the altered comments are distinctive relative to a default format. Readers can comment on a news story or blog entry, and the like, whether or not they read the online publication to which comments are associated.
