Google Gets Patent For Its "Google Doodles"

And people say that Google doesn't have enough patents!

Google cofounder Sergey Brin is credited as the inventor on the patent, which is entitled "System and Method For Enticing Users To A Web Site."

The patent also covers a method for periodically changing a home page so it appears to display a story line.

The actual methods described in the patent don't seem to be anything special -- it's not like Google has some amazing unique way of changing its logo daily. It's just creating a new image, storing it on a server, and uploading it to the Web server.

Well, blast. Here I've been doing it manually all this time when I could have used Burma-Shave signs.

Now, if only I could figure out the significance of "appears to display" ...

Amongst thousands of others who have done this kind of thing since before Google existed.. I can claim prior use and art..if I could be bothered with the merkin patent system..fools, knaves and spivs..the lot of 'em...not forgetting the lawyers, shamans and *whor^^^^^^liticans..

So as Steve is gone, Sergey is going for the new crown of king of the patenting the *$�%@# obvious ..and that which has already done for years.. by others..

*apologies to those of "rentable favours"..they are part of a far more honorable profession

imagine if google invented the web instead of tim berners-lee. they'd be slapping patents on everything from HTML and hyperlinks, to dropdown boxes and email.

Not just Google..all the corporations "over the pond" are playing ..the US patent system and what it will accept is like having your patent system run by toddlers in the twilight zone..on a double bill.. featuring and followed by patent disputes resolution procedures courtesy of Freddy Kruger in tales from the crypt..

Only makes patent lawyers and huge corps rich ..and is insane..and now they are trying to export it..

Bit of a joke your patent system. next you know it will a patent for adding photographs to entice users, then sue bing... and everyone

Can I patent a lettering system that when a series of individual letters or symbols are adjacent and the series is separated by spaces create words that have meanings...
