Google To Acquire Global IP Solutions For $68.2 Million [ft.com]
Google on Tuesday said it would buy Global IP Solutions, a Norwegian internet telephony company, for $68.2m, in a move that will push the search engine company further into direct competition with Skype and traditional telecoms companies.

The deal would also mean that Google would own the technology that underpins part of the instant messaging systems of rivals including Yahoo, AOL and Baidu.

A+ purchase. Somehow I expect Yahoo, AOL and Baidu to want to rebuild their instant messaging systems because of this but that's of no concern to Google.
