Google has made a $2 million to the Wikimedia Foundation, the group behind the widely used Wikipedia online reference site.
Jimmy Wales, a member of the board who helped create Wikipedia, announced the donation in a tweet on Tuesday. He said a formal announcement would come Wednesday.

My heart bleeds ! Ha! G trying to shore up its reputation after the Buzz disaster by donating, what for them is bread crumbs, to a "widely used" site so that quickly many will hear about it ? I'm too old to believe that the reason is mere G's pure generosity.
But on the other side, good for you Wikimedia, every little helps.

they should call it payment, rather than a donation. have you checked out google's place pages? look at the one for tokyo, for example. there is so much wikipedia content on there if they took it all off the page would be empty.
