A story in the Wall Street Journal, "Radio Tunes Out Google in Rare Miss for Web Titan," detailed Google's struggles in making in-roads into the radio ad market. In short, Google faced formidable barriers to entry, ranging from an entrenched ecosystem dominated by a few large radio station networks, a few media buying agencies, and advertisors demanding accountability.

Calling Google a "one-trick pony" because it couldn't make a go of radio advertising would be like calling an airline a one-trick pony if it were unsuccessful in an attempt to enter the trucking or railroad business.
