AP via Yahoo! News: Google's CFO to retire by end of year [news.yahoo.com]

Google Inc.'s chief financial officer will retire by the end of the year, creating the most prominent job opening at the Internet search leader since it went public three years ago.

George Reyes' departure as CFO, announced Tuesday, was unexpected — a development likely to stir speculation about his reasons for leaving a crucial job at one of the world's most scrutinized companies.

Also a perfect example of a 'journalist' leading his/her readers by the nose.

Replace " stir speculation" with "arouse curiosity" and you get a new spin. "Wonder why' is even less conspiratorial. Forget 'crucial' and 'scrutinized'. Just more rings in the chain to make a rather expected departure seem dark and foreboding.

Hmm, maybe he has enough money in his pocket...

Maybe the guy just wants to do some philanthropy, or he wants to spend more time with other 53-year-olds.

I'll wager that always being treated like a corporate suit in a sea of fresh, young Googlers has something to do with it.
