Perchance now maybe people will understand the true nature of googles relationship with ebay and the reason that it's "quality targeted ads" are all over the serps ..

It seems like they are playing on both sides of the fence.

Pretty soon there isn't going to be any room left on the Internet for content. There is going to be stuff for sale and ads for more stuff for sale with rich media ads dancing across the products listed for sale and the ads listing more stuff for sale.

The second component of the alliance calls for the two Silicon Valley companies to work together on developing a service that lets Web surfers place telephone calls through their computers or handheld devices when they click on a link in an Internet ad.

This may or may not make sense. You need to click on the ad to get to the landing page to see if you want more information or to make a purchase. That is the point in the sales process where the ability to make a call would be appropriate.

There simply isn't enough information in ad AdWords ad most of the time to warrant a phone call with the exception of maybe ordering flowers or something like that. Click to call at the point of looking at an AdWords ad seems like it would be a waste of time for advertisers because they would get calls from people who would be much better served by getting more information from the website first.

Ebay is struggeling to drive traffic and sales. Recently with the price increases a lot of sellers have left ebay. With fees from 15%-25% of the selling price (paypal, advertising, etc...) ebays sales have slumped.

Good move for google, after all they will be the ones making the money and all the sellers left on ebay will be footing the bill.

If ebay was smart, they would lower the fees and their traffic would come back.

Basically, a person advertises in (adwords) for a particuar adword (Lets say that keyword costs $0.20 cents) When a person clicks on the advertisemet, it takes them to a site that displays ebay ads (Adsense). The unknowing person clicks on the ebay ad (for a different keyword) and goes to ebay. The adsense ads earn the site $0.75 a click for example, then the site owner nets a profit of $0.55/click

I don't do anything on Ebay except buy stuff once in a while but from the press it sure sounds like they know how to piss people off with endless rate increases. Just the [bad] press around that has got to make people think twice about setting up shop on Ebay.

A lot of wall street analysts believe the management of ebay is making very bad decisions. It has been downgraded recently to a sell status.

Not far from the mark. Replace "eBay" with "Skype" and I think you're on target.

This has more to do with Skype than it has to do with eBay. Skype has the potential to become a browser replacement.

I can definitely see it heading in that direction. It's been downloaded more times than FireFox. Some smart technology integrating the browser experience with a social networking experience and you have Web 3.0.

Skype is more than an application - it's a network. Google want some ad space on that network.
