I've managed to avoid all reviews over Christmas and New Year and went to see the film at the cinema this afternoon.

I'm reading some reviews now: a lot of negative reception. I'm surprised at how much. I liked it.

Not as good as I (obviously).

But certainly better than III.

And, in some respects at least, better than II, I thought.

If this is the last word (it may not be), it leaves things on a note I'm more comfortable with than the ending of III did.

Reviews for many movies are polarized for the past two years and not reaching consensus like they used to. Check multiple news outlets and one will swoon and rave while another will dump a thumbs down about how disappointing it is.

I think it might be an effect from watching home review screeners or uncomfortably watching an advanced screening in an empty theater. Something changed during the pandemic and it's made reviews more unreliable.

On Super-Ball Sunday watch All IV, then move on to fish and chips, never gets old!
