Piracy Fight Inadvertently Takes Down Legitimate Sites

Have some of your favourite sites been offline? Here's one reason why.

Internet users have been prevented from accessing the Radio Times and hundreds of other websites as a result of the Premier League's battle with an unrelated copyright infringing service.

The accident occurred because the sites share internet protocol addresses.

I think there's something in the fact that it only happens with the non-www version, it sounds as if DNS/redirection has not been set up properly.

I doubt the sites in question are on the same IP for hosting, it could be that DNS which has been neglected (not specifying where the non-www belongs) is handled in some wierd way, which goes through the IP in question (still leaves the question as to why the offending site is on that IP... hey I don't know the specifics)

This sort of thing happens all the time. Unless its a large site with its own IP, its inevitable, and IP blocking seems what the British government favours at the moment.

I mentioned DMCA notices against legitimate sites in another thread (HBO taking down an open source software download, and MS complaining about their own site).
