I am surprised that this issue is not discussed more on WebmasterWorld. Am I the only paranoid one here?

This should be bad for the US economy...every incentive to build internet companies elsewhere so they can be trusted.

The perfect antidote to freedom is just a math problem for the high priests of IT, search and social media.

The wibbling from the EU commissioner will probably be greeted with the common response for these unelected bureaucrats from Brussels: Meh! Sure you've got the people who don't understand what's happening shrieking in indignation and trying for figure out how to protest but most people don't really care.

but most people don't really care.
That doesn't make it right. You could probably say the same about Germans and "The Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service" in 1933

Yes. But most people (especially in Ireland and perhaps the UK) distrust the EU/Brussels and its Nomenklatura more than they do NSA strange as that seems. The realist approach is that this kind of thing is going to happen. The idealist approach is that this kind of thing should not happen. The EU/Brussels bureaucrat approach is to wonder how they can get their snouts in this particular trough. However I don't think it is quite on the same level as that 1933 German law.

I'm surprised too. I have no idea who to believe at this point. Sure, all the tech companies denying all knowledge of PRISM could be lying, but the document could also be disinformation.
