They Found It! Higgs boson - The Large Hadron Collider Proves A 'Discovery' [bbc.co.uk]

Cern scientists reporting from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have claimed the discovery of a new particle consistent with the Higgs boson.

Both of the Higgs boson-hunting experiments at the LHC see a level of certainty in their data worthy of a "discovery".

More work will be needed to be certain that what they see is a Higgs, however.

But what is the Higgs Boson made up from? Two Higgs Sailors and a Higgs Cabin Boy perhaps? Also are there Higgs Boson Anti matter particles? These could be the Pirate versions of the Higgs Boson complete with an eypatch and a wooden leg.

Now it's called the "Intelligent Design Particle"

It looks like Fermilab's Tevatron collider actually found this particle and the LHC only confirmed it's existence. HOWEVER, Tevatron won't get any credit for this because of politics since the whole basis of building the LHC was based on the premise it was needed to find the Higgs boson and that turned out to be untrue best I can tell.

The "discovery" is only an early step in the further exploration, but it's quite a milestone. Chances are that they're going to want to do this more than once... and that they'll find additional particles which will suggest additional paths of discovery. I think it's mind boggling.
