AOL, Yahoo and Microsoft compete for ad dollars. But a new pact calls for the rivals to cooperate on ad sales, too.
The three companies are going to start selling ad inventory on each others’ sites, in a plan they hope will make them more competitive with Google.
The strategy is also designed to help them claw back some ad spending that has ended up in the hands of ad networks in recent years.
Executives from all three companies briefed a group of top Web publishers and ad buyers about the plan at a dinner presentation last night in Manhattan. AOL, Yahoo and Microsoft hope to convince big Web properties to share some of their ad inventory as well, and to get big ad holding companies to funnel some of their purchases through the consortium.

I got excited for a moment with that title thinking this might be a serious alternative to adsense. Instead it looks like they're only interested in big brand websites, not the power of a million little ones.

No they won't. They have small minds and are thinking small thoughts that won't compete. Not only have they forgotten the small guys like you and me but they have mislaid a whole, hugely profitable continent - it's called Europe! That is where the big money is to be made. And Google is wise enough to understand that.

I heard they are making a movie now ... coming out in 2012 ... just in time with the AOL, Yahoo, and MS deal.

AOL, Microsoft and Yahoo In New Ad Inventory Cooperation Plan
I've been batting 100% on my predictions lately-- so here's my take on this "unholy alliance": Yahoo will get swallowed up, Microsoft will "innovate" new ideas a year after they are mainstream but have the cash reserves and installed base to survive, and AOL will get sued for doing something deceptive.
...never mind, that's the news for the last decade.
