My apologies if I asked this in the past, but forgot.
Yeah, my new laptop has a WiFi card, an Ethernet jack and I think I paid 10 dollars extra for an onboard modem jack.
Until Jan 1st of this year, my ISP had a deal where you'd buy dial-up time, say 15.00USD for 20 hours of dialup access. They dumped it.
However, when I'm away, I need to connect to check on my sites. Same if my Cable Modem goes down at home.
Does anyone know of a USA service that still offers such a pay-as-you go package?
Yes, I know I could use AOL, but don't want to.
Yes, I know most hotels have WiFi, internal wireless networks or at least a wired Ethernet connection, but not the dumps I usually stay in. I pull out the wall phone and stick my modem line in.
Yes, I know there are dial-up services for $10.00USD a month

But I don't want any of those. I want the re-chargeable type dial-up service. I saw a couple, but they were outside the USA.
Does anyone know of at least one left that can accomodate this Luddite?
Thanks in advance!

I think that the growth of cable / dsl type systems has put substantial pressure on all parts of the dial-up market. Anyway - I've stickied you a shortlist.
Thanks so much Vince,
Yeah, broadband is the deal, AFAIC - but what does this 'net addict do when the storm knocks out service for a day or so?
I do recall reading recently that in the USA, the percentage of households on broadband just recently passed 50% of the total households with internet access.
There's a lot of folks still living in the woods....
Again, thanks!
