Ohhhh...so true! I tried retiring at 40, the wife says I'm now a "miserable sod". So back to work I go!

Retiring didn't make the wife happy, and it didn't make me happy for all but a few months!

"Buster" Martin, a mechanic for a south London plumbing firm who has 17 children and 70 grandchildren and great grandchildren, tried giving up work at the age of 97 but couldn't face the boredom.

17 children!?!

I know people who don't carry cellphones but never owning a phone? That's really unusual but then so is living to be a hundred.

I watched him on TV...... and I'm sorry, I just don't believe he is 100. Great story if true, but his skin and general mobility made me wonder.

17 children... Yeah, he must really hate being bored. heh

I get bored after a weeks holiday too. I also get bored if I bum around home for a few days.

Lets face it, if you enjoy what you do it is better than doing nothing. If you work in a factory making washers all day or something then anything is better than work.

In fact at the moment I am soo bored at work that I am posting in foo. Last refuge for wasting some time before the gym.

I just don't believe he is 100 - Thats nothing I was working in Broomfield hospital in Chelmsford just over a year ago and got talking to a woman who was 104, I swear, perfect hearing and mobility.

We spoke about the first world war and her recollections of great moments in time. (like 17/3/1971)

So im not surprised and I do think its true.

I agree about phones especially mobile phones.
I owned one in the mid eighties, the size and weight of a brick and eventually got so sick of it ringing that I threw it in a skip and smiled as I walked away. I had another a few years later, just as heavy and whilst relaxing on Llandudno pier it started ringing so I threw it in the water where it sank to the bottom, about a foot deep and continued to ring there. The assembled audience were very impressed by the build quality especially its waterproof properties. The last one I had a few years ago was unceremoniously dumped in a cup of coffee and stopped immediately. They don’t make then like they used to.
