That could get me to give up Chrome. One thing I notice these days is it's getting harder and harder to know which browser you're in. I don't know if that's because everyone is zeroing in on the same winning UI patterns or if everyone is running around chasing the leader (Chrome is #1 last I checked).

Always wondered why they retain the additional search box? Most browsers use a regex of sorts to work out what t he users intentions are with the text they supply. With FF if you type a word in the address bar it tries to resolve it as opposed to initiating a search.

There is no add-on bar anymore.

The latest Firefox removes the Add-on bar and now places an Add-on's button in the main toolbar.

I've used Firefox almost since it first came out. I've "grown up" with it as far as web browsing goes. I especially like the add-ons options.

What I HATE on the new version is that I can no longer put the tab bar below the navigation bar, which is where it began and where most "older" users are familiar with it. Used to be, at worst, that one could fiddle it through TabMix or about:config but not even that now. A few other niggles (including the add-ons bar) but the tab bar one is by far the worst. :(

Still, I think FF is better than anything else around for usability and safety and it's a default in linux, with auto-update, so I'll stick with it.

However that's likely what users asked for. After I got used to it, I actually prefer the tabs on top now; much more succinct.

I'm more concerned about the add-ons I lost, of course that's a causality of almost each update.

Like switching browsers is going to change anything. People forget that, between the browser and the rest of the world, there's the rest of the world, including every one of my clients, and we/they learn as much about you as Google does but I'd rather let Google handle my data than just about any other company on earth.

Another reason to use FF, then. I HATE it when I type something into the address bar and the browser unilaterally decides that I meant to do a google search. If I wanted to search, I'd have gone to the search engine's site.

Does someone, somewhere, think this is a bad thing? If the browser worked properly, there would be no need for UA detection at all, and sites should look identical everywhere.

Reason #17 to kick myself for "upgrading" to 10.9 is that I'm now stuck in Safari 7, which makes it very close to impossible to set a preferred default font. Would anyone in their right mind choose Times Roman?

I read in a different venue that FF29 can have problems attempting to log into an http (as opposed to https) site. So far the discussion hasn't pinned down the exact combination of circumstances that triggers the problem.

I'm putting together a site to help people quickly get back to a traditional humanly usable GUI for Firefox. If we wanted Chrome we would use Chrome. There is no need to experiment with GUI, the people in charge at Mozilla are completely out of control and not just with GUI.

I haven't had any issues, and I've logged into several http & https sites in the last couple days since upgrading to FF29.

Not that I can see... but then I have AdBlock Plus installed on all browsers.

Okay, did the update. Many things to like, one thing t hate: about:config does not allow me to change the location of the tabs as all previous versions did... I don't like them at the top... but it does load faster and the layouts are more "crisp" in display, so I guess I get get used to it.

Have no use for the SYNC function so that's not a biggie for me. The new MENU is Windows 3.1 Program Manager all over again, so kind of nice to see the Retro come back.

So far no issues on the dozen or so sites I use on a routine daily basis. Will peek under the hood over the next few days and see what else is going on.

(I really hate the tabs on top!)

You can get the addon bar back with an addon called "The Addon Bar (restored).

Thank goodness. I've got a ton of things on that bar!

When I hit the customize button from the new menu all my add ons were displayed... I dropped the ones I wanted to the address/search bar and voila! all is good. YMMV.

[edit] I surf full screen, partly eyes, partly that I like to see full width... so adding those to the address/url bar did not delete any usable width of either (which self-adjusted to the additions).

Yuckkk... It must be a combo of my screen resolution etc but there is no differentation between the tabs. It is dark blue tabs with slightly darker blue text on a slightly lighter blue tab backround.. IOW - MUDDY. I haven't figured out how to change that in FF.

There are probably skins or something. I am NOT going to change my win 7 windows settings for one app.

I've updated from 26 > 29, haven't noticed much of a difference after reinstating the menu bar.

I think there's mileage in being able to keep a 'classic' browser chrome that can be plugged into various versions... man hours wasted getting to grips with tweaked UIs seems a bit senseless.

Firefox 29.0.1 may solve some of the problem I was facing.

One bug(?) I've noticed is that saved usernames/passwords do not consistently populate login fields on HTTPS sites.

I use Noia for FF Appearance - current version requires 3.01. In that it's possible to set a variety of tab colours. Noia Options helps slightly as well.

I also run TabMixPlus which allows a lot of tab setup - eg current tab orange, other loaded tabs blue.

Keyplr - Not something I would ever do. Too many chances of misuse/etc. :)
