I really like how IE9 and FF4 have taken on the minimalistic "top bar" like Chrome introduced. It gives a lot more screen for the webpage itself.

Runs HTML5 really fast... still a small memory issue but it seems under control.

The font rendering in Firefox 4 is very blurry for me. Is it just me or anyone else?

I also don't like where they put the reload button.

I'm not getting the fuzzy fonts but there was a FF release a while back that I did get them with.

I think that resizing the fonts down a size then back up fixed it. Not sure if it is the same issue you are having though.

The font rendering in both Firefox 4 and IE9 on Windows Vista and 7 will use DirectDraw instead of standard Windows font rendering. Both are ClearType-enabled, of course, but they display very differently. Like many others, I find them fuzzy. In Firefox 4, you can disable hardware acceleration to turn them off by clicking the Firefox button - Options - Advanced - General and then unchecking the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox.

If you're not sure if you want to upgrade from Firefox 3.6.x yet, you can download and run Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition from your desktop without impacting your local version.

OK, the new "Apps Tab" would be useful, but I cannot figure how to set it or make it appear.

Weeks, on our PC, it was there by default on the top left. I don't believe it exists on the Mac.

BTW, it was nice installing a browser on the PC without having to restart the machine.

On the Mac: Hold down the Control key and click and hold down the cursor on the tab you want to "pin." Menu comes up on the screen. (Seems to be just a tiny little tab that stays fixed.)

I just moved over to Gmail, so a lot of this is new to me.

Drag and drop it where you want it...

Been playing around a bit and you can actually put your bookmark toolbar in the AddOn bar (footer) so right now I've got tabs at the top of the page with the nav bar and all my bookmarks in the AddOn bar (footer) ... kind of cool.

It still has a memory leak on my Mac. I have 8 sites pinned and 3 tabs open and after about an hour I get the "spinning rainbow of death ball" that requires me to restart it.

web page scrolling with the trackpoint of my thinkpad doesn't work on ff4. the web is full of bug reports on that issue and they still didn't fix it in the final version. so the browser is unusable for me.

Also, on one of our Macs we went into "private mode" and when we came out we had lost all of my favcons in the bookmarks and my "pinned" tabs disappeared. Not good.

Yea, I had reported earlier that my beta version of FF was so poor I had to revert back to 3.6.

Generally good, but some useful extensions are not working, and I cannot move the Add-on bar to somewhere it might take up less space than the status bar it replaces to save space...

2) does anyone who uses non-english sites can confirm/deny that the error when page headers suddenly turned into bunch of question marks ? instead of actual titles has been finally fixed? I believe this is a feature at least since FF 3.N

I've seen NONE of these since starting with FF 1x... Then again, I rarely have more than three tabs open at any time AND I deliberately close my browser at LUNCH (with FF instructed to clear all cache and history). Has always run like a bat out of heck and this new version is that much faster.

Also believe the number of add-ons, and what they might be, can contribute to quirky operation. YMMV.

Oh hell font rendering is totally porked!

I don't mean the aliasing or whatever bugs, I mean the font sizing is all wrong.

Some of the Microsoft fonts look particularly bad, e.g. Corbel. Calibri is pretty terrible too and Verdana's a bit weird.

I'm talking about sizing - they are either too big or too small. Corbel is way too big, like 20 or 30% larger than it should be rendering.

The truth be told... I hate the font rendering in Firefox 3. I'm waiting for an all-clear, btw, before upgrading. I avoid getting the v point zero version of anything.

I think generally the anti-aliasing in FF4 is an improvement, it's just that they haven't paid any attention at all to sizing. It's like the idiots tested it with Arial and Georgia and said yep that's okay.

So unless they fix it quickly in a .0.x version, we now have a version of FF out there that renders fonts in a totally non-standard size and there's not much you can do about it short of writing specific CSS exceptions for FF4!

Text weight is too "thin"... ie, the bold is not bold enough, and the normal weight is downright delicate. Verdana, eg, is unpleasant to read on FF. I general visit WebmasterWorld using IE8.

The best surprise I've found so far in FF4 is the drag handles on all textareas that makes them resizable.

Right, but completely screws up the CSS layout on many pages if you drag them too far / outside their container.

I use CCleaner regularly to keep my system free of cruft. I've noticed that FF4 tends to cache much more than it did previously, I think. I don't remember it being as cache hungry as it appears to be now. For example, prior to changing my FF options to clear cache on exit, I'd see anywhere between 250-450MB+ of cache per day. I don't remember it being like that with FF3, I could be wrong. I do know that my CCleaner takes longer (2-3 times longer) to clean now with FF4 in the mix.

Also, the moving of the tabs was not the best thing to do but you have the option to put them back where they belong. ;)

I just dumped FF4. After many years of using FF, this last version has had nothing but problems on my Mac. The memory issue caused my Mac to seize up after maybe 2 hours of opening and closing windows. My productivity went through the floor.

Too bad. I now have to re-familiarize myself with another browser.
